This course explores the synergies between the production of hydrogen and the existing - and future - use of onshore and offshore wind. Both the onshore and offshore wind industries have grown significantly globally. The offshore wind industry has expanded significantly; for example in the UK in the last 20 years it’s grown to 10 gigawatts now in operation.

Challenges remain however not least connecting these generators to the grid with grid capacity acting as a bottleneck and considerable cost. Hydrogen production could be a more cost effective way to tap this energy abundance. Ideal for those of a non-technical background, seeking to better understand both new business opportunities and risks, the session aims to be low on powerpoint and maximise the time for Q&A.

This Course Includes:

  • All session recordings & any course materials covered during the course

  • Interactive format with dedicated Q&A sections with the trainer

Meet the Trainer

Charlie Rattan gained consent for the £26m Hunterston national offshore turbine test facility, giving SSE a world leading centre for the testing of next generation machines. Charlie led the £4bn 690MW Islay offshore wind farm, steering the team through a successful hearing process to gain a critical consent.

He has managed and mitigated risks for the 4.2 GW Seagreen offshore wind farm, ensuring risks were addressed He has also advised on conceptual planning for French offshore wind farms utilising knowledge of recent advances in offshore construction to identify operational expenditure reductions of up to 20%.

What Attendees Are Saying

Great overview with deep knowledge demonstrated over the course
— CEO, Bioarag
Slides were informative, good delivery from the trainer, and the technology worked well. Good idea to space it out over three days as it was less disruptive.
— Managing Director, Low Carbon
