The American Hydrogen Intelligence Service is a quarterly 2 hour, live analyst presentation and interactive Q&A session covering the key projects, policy changes and analysis of key market sectors.
Why is it important?
Interest in hydrogen is developing in both the USA and Canada. Canada has a number of strong hydrogen players led by Ballard, the pioneering PEM fuelcell company. In the USA has large proven reserves of cheap methane from multiple reserves extracted through fracking and is looking to both implement CCS technology for a blue pathway and exploit it’s considerable solar and wind resources to produce green hydrogen.
The Biden administration huge $3tn COVID response infrastructure plan including both grid enhancements and CCS should help the USA upgrade it’s entire energy system. The recent Texas brownout has further fuelled the appetite for strong public investment into energy.
What is the background to hydrogen in North America?
In the US hydrogen has initially been synonymous with fuelcells and the automotive sector (and much criticised by Mr Musk of Tesla). However now interest is growing in it’s applicability across multiple other niche sectors as indicated by Plug Power’s recent rollercoaster share price ride (x20 to settle back to x10 in the past 12 months).
