Panel Discussion: Deploying the Renewables Needed in Iberia for Accelerating the Hydrogen Economy in Europe
The Iberian region is fast becoming a European powerhouse in the renewables and hydrogen markets. Set against the continuing backdrop of energy market volatility in Europe, there remains increasing pressure to decarbonise power systems within the grid, and for energy-intensive sectors.
Spain and Portugal both have ambitious pipelines of gigawatt-scale renewable energy projects. At the same time, they are seeing a plethora of investments and project announcements that promise to advance the clean hydrogen economy across the region and Europe as a whole.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) recently stated that Spain itself would account for half of Europe’s growth in dedicated renewable capacity for hydrogen production.
However, lots of work is still needed to continue this potential and deliver the necessary projects that will meet the net-zero goals. The EU target of 20 million metric tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030 requires electricity that the current renewable resources are unable to produce.
Ahead of our World Hydrogen & Renewables Iberia conference this September (12-14) in Madrid, we are delighted to explore this topic further with a pre-conference webinar that will delve into the crucial integration of the renewable energy and hydrogen value chains.
Join us on the 15 June for our pre-event webinar as a ‘taster’ of what is to be discussed during our in-person event!
