Agenda

Session 1:  Foundations of Hydrogen Certification

Certification Requirements and Market Dynamics

  • Understand market drivers, including decarbonisation goals, emerging hydrogen markets, and the role of certification in international trade

  • Explore mandatory certifications required to access key markets and voluntary certifications recognised for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBOs) in the EU.

  • Participate in a facilitator-led discussion on the relationship between mandatory and voluntary certifications.

Certification Bodies, Sustainability Criteria, and Market Challenges

  • Gain insights into prominent certification bodies and key sustainability criteria, including lifecycle GHG thresholds, renewable energy requirements, and feedstock traceability.

  • Learn about regulatory evolution, market alignment challenges, and the importance of lifecycle data transparency.

  • Analyse a real certification project focused on overcoming sustainability challenges.

Session 2:  Certifying Hydrogen Along the Value Chain

Hydrogen Production Pathways and Certification Requirements

  • Explore certification needs for hydrogen production pathways, including electrolysis, SMR, industrial co-product, coal gasification, biomass and feedstock and auto thermal reforming, considering the use of CCS.

  • Apply concepts through GHG calculation exercises for a hypothetical hydrogen production project.

Hydrogen Conditioning, Conversion, and Transport

  • Examine certification complexities for hydrogen carriers such as ammonia, liquid hydrogen, and LOHCs.

  • Address challenges in multi-modal transport certification.

  • Engage in a group discussion on hydrogen conditioning, conversion, and transport.

Session 3: Applications, Trends, and Future Directions

Case Studies – Lessons from Global Projects

  • Learn from case studies, including exporting electrolysis-based hydrogen and ammonia to high-demand markets.

  • Gain insights into overcoming regulatory and operational hurdles.

  • Participate in an interactive Q&A session to explore lessons learned and best practices.

Emerging Trends and Future Directions in Hydrogen Certification

  • Explore advances in certification frameworks for hydrogen derivatives and new strategies and policies.

  • Examine scaling up hydrogen production and aligning certification with evolving regulations.

  • Conclude with a dynamic Q&A session to reflect on future opportunities and challenges in hydrogen certification.
